5.3 engine mods?

I have a 02 gmc z71 with the 5.3 vortec. It's completely stock and has around 135,000 miles on it so its not exactly new. After I get a cold air intake, I'm not sure what to add next. It's still going to be a daily driver but i want atleast 350 hp and 400 ft-lbs of tq. What are some suggestions and any extra info about the price would be appreciated. And yes i know that ill probably have to get a new transmission since the stock one is only rated for about 360 ft-lbs of tq

You want that power at the flywheel or rear wheels?

Do you ever tow with the truck?

Extended cab or reg cab?

How much are you looking to spend?

Cold air intake- i wouldn't spend more than 100$ Get a air raid its all the same. Or you can look for a tube on ebay and buy a filter

Tune-200$ i would go with one of our sponsors to the right, I'm getting a nelson

You can go the cheap way and go no2 go to the nitrous outlet and they have pretty good stuff

Cam- depends on what you want

Stall- well do you tow?

Maybe you would want to swap a 6.0?

There's alot of ways to hit that number

I would like it at the rear wheels but that seems a tad bit unrealistic right now.

I tow every now and then but nothing major.

Extended cab.

I would like it to be as cheap as possible, but at the same time i want quality parts

an engine swap's out of my budget but can you give me more info about the cam?

Whats your budget???
A 6.0 swap would prob run $1500-$2000 depending on the condition of the motor..

Headers-$450
Cam-$800-$1200
Converter-$400-$900
Tune-$200-$500

Those prices are with you installing the parts also...

Nelson Performance did a 220 cam,headers and a tune on a 5.3 and ended up at 322rwhp nd 300rwtq for about $1500 + install.....

So pick your poison i guess lol

ha wow an engine swap doesnt seem that bad now

would the headers increase power enough to justify the cost?

and about the cam, ive found some that are much cheaper than that but im not sure how big of a difference they would make..

im sure that im about to sound like an idiot but can you explain what the converter does

thanks alot

Long tube headers are definately worth the swap, shorties not so much. Definately do the long tube headers if you are even considering a cam swap in the future.

Cams aren't expensive, but that price was the estimate for a cam swap. There is usually more parts swapping when you change camshafts, hence the extra $300-500 cushion.
