are you guys replacing just the chain or the timing set?

How about part # 9-4205 Cloyes timing chain? comes up as a replacement chain for a 2005 Corvette. Only $20 at Oreilly's

Found an M295 online for $73 shipped. Going to go with that pump

Also going to order the GM55 Pro King I6 Trailblazer Stall Converter

Yank sells LS2 timing sets on LS1Tech. I'd go with the entire set instead of just the chain.

You're already in there, might as well replace what you can.

Ordered the Oil pump yesterday.

Thinking about just grabbing the LS2 chain and using my 5.3 timing gears. Is that what most people do? I can't see the gears wearing just that the chain will stretch.

Yes the gears should be fine if they pass your visual inspection .

Same thing I was thinking, I see these trucks with 300K + miles on them all the dang time.

I would like to pull the heads and swap the lifters due to mileage but I dont think I am going to.

I see 300k plus mile trucks too, but they're pulling around trailers with lawn equipment on them, not having cam swaps performed and being beat on.

it's just me but if I was in that position and wanted to start modding, I'd save a little more and get a lower mile, or refreshed short block. again, that's just me.

Who would just swap the chain? Get new gears too, visual inspection won't tell you how worn the sprocket cups are or if there are thermal fractures around the teeth. 200k mile sprockets generally have enough wear to account for 2-4 degrees of chain timing. Not huge in the long run, but certainly enough to hurt performance.
