a good set of oval port heads will out perform squareport heads because of the port velocity is much better at the level you want to perform at. Talk to any grassroots racer and he will tell you the same. Save your money for rect port for big ci and high compression engines.

AMEN!
Keep it to 10:1, a great set of 781's would be the best bang for the buck. A solid, or solid roller cam. Roller if you can afford it, if not, just a solid will suffice. getting 500HP out of a 460 is pretty easy.

solid roiler, will have a fast ramp rate, and be way more accurate and have more lift. Roller lifters. But, more expensive. The cheapest route is a hydraulic...adjustable, not as accurate, less power. The middle of the road, is the solid. Like the solid cam in the Chevy 302's back in the day.
I built many smallblocks, used hydraulics. Ran a solid ONE time, and will never go back to hydraulic..way more power than the hydraulic. Now if I had the money, I would have done solid roller...just couldn't afford the setup at the time.
Solids are not much more than a hydraulic either...
