400hp on 5.3?

Just curious as to what it takes to get 400hp on the motor for a 5.3? What bolt ons are needed, cam size, etc. Im talking flywheel hp. Thanks.

Are you talking crank hp?

Edit: Re-read the first post.

What year 5.3 with what RPO code? Did you search before making your first post or do you deserve a ruler across the knuckles?

If you use the standard 20% loss of horsepower through the drivetrain, then any of the combos putting down about 320 at the rear wheels will give you 400 at the crank. Something like a tr 220 or cam of similar size with headers/ bolt ons should do it pretty easily. Several guys here have put down about 340 at the wheels, or approx 425 at the crank using that combo

I figure i can get around 380 at the crank on my 5.3 Colorado. I just have a ported TB and dynotune at this time, but plan on headers and cam with a E fan later on. It won't be anything like my modded C6 Vette, but around 320hp to the wheels will be much better than stock.

When we talk HP on this site we generally refer to Rear Wheel HP. Few of us have access to engine dynomometers :P

personally i think if you have the newer 5.3 then yes its possible with mininumal mods, maybe not quite 400 but pretty close, older 5.3s i would think it wwould take alot more to achieve

CAI, Long tube headers, off road y-pipe, 220+ cam will get you at least 400 flywheel hp, even on the older 5.3's...

To keep from starting another thread, Ill ask this here. The motor in my truck has 193,000 miles and next weekend we are putting in another 5.3 that only has 43,000. How does wear affect these engines? Can i expect the new one to run stronger?
