Default 370 Questions ? (lq4,ly6,lq9)

Hello I have been doing some research on the lq4.ly6,and lq9 and think it would be a good engine to use when I restore a 1970 camaro which will be a weekend driver and a few days at the strip. But I do have a few questions. I want to make around 425-500rwhp (no boost or nitrous) What would you guys suggest along with what would you check and replace when you bought an engine ?

My Plans

bore block .30 over to make 370 (was thinking 402 or 408 but kinda pricey)
set of milled, port and polished l92 heads (want to run 91 octane)
cam ? (still want drive ability and dont want the powerband to be to high)
Intake Fast 102 (I have seen alot of people use the victor junior)
Throttle body Fast 102
Headers
6spd 3.73 or 4.11 gears
etc

May as well throw in all forged internals if its in your budget.

As for as cam selection, I'd stay mid to high 230's for intake and high 230's low 240's duration on a 110 or 112 lsa.

I'm not a fan of big cams though.

Different ways to do it.

Another option is STOCK BOTTOM end with cam, tune, full exhaust, injectors and an aftermarket manifold swap.

I know you said without boost, but you can add a s/c or turbo to it and do the same thing and have some underhood bling. All depends on your budget and if you think you will ever want to get more out of it .

But with your list, I do not think you would need to touch the internals to get your power goal numbers.

Welcome to the forum. I've highlighted the areas that are going to basically have you chasing a unicorn. There's lots of information and helpful people here to help you out. A good sense of humor will help as well.

Here's another part to add to your build list.

make an lq9 based 370 the easiest will be out of a 99-04 lq4. add l92s or keep the 317s mill them at most .040 add a .232 .236 .603 .605 @ 112+2 and a fast intake and tb combo with 42# injectors, headers, 4:11s and call it a day

Thanks guys just a few more questions what compression should I use to run 91 octane ? Using my plans, what power should I be getting since you guys said I could get that without internal work ? I may spring for forged internals depending on the price of everything would a 6500 budget including buying a used engine be good ? I am also not very smart when it comes to cams so what operating range ?

sounds pretty similar to my lq4 build, im getting .30 over and staying with dished pistons and am gonna run a tsp torquer 2 cam 232/234. i didnt want the flat top pistons so i can run 91. also gonna stick with the 317's. so far my build is close to 3,000
