2003 LQ4 / 2006 LQ9 swap
I've got a 2003 1500hd with a stock, high mile LQ4 (dbw). I have a complete low mile LQ9 in my shop with a TVS1900 installed. I'm looking for my easiest option to complete the swap. Will I be able to use the 03 PCM and harness to run the 06 LQ9 (using hptuners to swap tuning parameters over to the stock 03 PCM) or would it be better to swap in the 06 PCM?

Does the LQ9 have the 24x reluctor wheel? (black crank sensor?)
If yes, then you don't need to do anything except maybe a TB adapter. I'm not sure what the DBW TBs look like compared to what that TVS needs. |
I'll check the crank sensor, but the 90mm TB and Dr x module is still on the TVS intake. I pulled it from my 06 SS and kept everything.

Its plug and play. The 03 would have a return style fuel system where the LQ9 probably does not unless they changed it for the blower install. That's it.

Yup, should be really simple.
The 2003 P59 computer will support a 2 bar operating system no problem (literally 99% of them have it available). Input the new injector data, 2 bar map sensor data and start tuning away. |
Ok, looks like the 06 has the 58x reluctor wheel and the 03 has the 24x. If I keep the 03 pcm and harness, I can upload the 06 tune and go? I have ordered the return manifold from magnacharger to keep fueling simple.

GEN 3 engines are 24x, it won't be a 58x crank trigger. If the knock sensors are under the intake it's a GEN 3 24x engine.
The LQ4/LQ9 are GEN 3 engines. |
Thanks guys

Yup, so just tune the 03 computer to support boost. No need to really copy anything from an 06 file when everything will be custom to this new application.
