2003 5.3l?
Just got a 2003 5.3l .5ton truck with 11,000 miles on it for $15,000. Should I be worried about piston slap And is there anything oil ext. that would help prevent damage.

I think everybody will agree to switch to a synthetic oil. As far as the piston slap, you can'nt help it but the problem was susposed to be corrected in the newer trucks but some owners still say its there. If its there take it to the dealership since its under warranty, get a work order to it. They will probably say that its normal and than call GM Customer service. You can probably get a 100K coverage on the motor.

Don't worry about the piston slap they all do it when cold.Mine didn't start slapping until 10,000 ,miles and I have 30,000 now with no problems.Just use pf59 delco filter and Mobil synthetic oil and your good to go.
