2002 5.3 pushrod length
 

I want to buy a set of pushrods before I replace my cam in a few weeks and was wondering what the stock pushrod length was. My buddy said it is 7.400, but I have seen 7.400 and 7.425 lengths available. I know the best way would be to wait and measure them when I remove the valve covers, but I would like to have the parts, just incase shipping is delayed. Thanks!

It depends on what the base circle of your new cam will be if it is the same as stock, the rod length is 7.35, but a 7.4 rod will work. Idf it is a smaller then stock base it will be a longer rod..

Yes it is. I kept the stock pushrods with the ZO6 cam swap last year, but want something stronger than stock. The new cam specs are 216 int 224 exh @.050 with a LSA of 112 .550lift. I saw at advanced auto, they say the stock pushrod length is 7.318. Why the difference is sizes?

I believe that the stock length is 7.38, but it is most common for guys to use 7.4 length pushrods when installing an aftermarket cam, that's what most manufacturers recommend, as long as the heads haven't been milled.

Good luck--I have been having pushrod length issues...trying to put together the Trick Flow top end kit for my 5.3. the kit came with 7.5" pushrods which when installed actually opened the valves a bit (using harland sharp 1.7 rockers supplied with kit) so I ordered some shims and used two .040 and was STILL opening the valves. grrrr. switched back to the stock pushrods and still have to use 1 shim- but now only geting 1/2 turn between zero lash and 22ft/lbs. BTW, I am using stock replacement (federal mougal) lifters @ trick flows reccomendation. all-in-one kit my ass.

O'reilys website also claims stock length is 7.318... I dunno where all of the "stock 7.4" stuff comes from


Jeff, have you run your truck with the combo listed in your sig? I am curious since the cam in the trick flow kit is similar spec-216/220 .560/.560 114 lsa

If the cam base circle is the same as OEM, 7.400s should work just fine. I keep Manleys in stock for $100 plus shipping.
