No they aren't lol. Why not check main clearances and rod bearing clearances versus an LS lol. And don't say the afm as the system is identical to the LS setup too. Engines aren't magic... when your tolerance allows below 1 thou on a rod bearing and that has been the same since any LS... well you can't go any tighter or you starting spinning bearings.

Here's a fun fact for you... the L86 and LT1 long blocks are identical to the point they interchange. The trucks spec 0w20... the passenger cars spec 5w30... weird huh lol. No they aren't assembled any differently.. 5w30 works quite nicely. And before someone says something GMs spec is 5w30 whether its wet or dry sump...

And to really pop skulls GM recommends 15W50 for any track events with the cars... Yeah that 5w30 on the street is just going to cause pure mayhem.

You're gonna have to provide some evidence of these claims man. Nowhere in the manual
of a C5 does it say to change the oil for a track event. Maybe you mean newer performance vehicles?

Also, let's talk specs, the 10/30 recommendation for my Buick L67 is in an engine that allows up to .004 on clearance in a "blue printed" motor. The LS1 is .0009-.003, so it leads me to believe that it doesn't take much to require a thinner oil.

Dont really know why we are arguing this, run 85/140 in your engine if you want. I'm just saying that there is no benefit to deviating from the factory specification for a daily driven vehicle.

C7.... you know the cars that the direct injected engines came with. You can look this stuff up yourself like anyone else can. With as much fuel dilution the direct injected engines experience the protection from running a slightly higher viscosity oil isn't a terrible idea. Does the 0w20 work... yep it does usually. Is the engine going to experience major catastrophic failure from running 5w30... nope.

So now we are arguing opinions. And don't get too snippy there buddy, your original post about 15/50 just said "cars" so don't get all "well dumbass I said cars like the C7 that you know came with DI"

anyway, I digress: I've always run the factory spec oil and the only motor I've lost in 16yrs was because I tried to tune it myself. so carry on. You do you, I'll do me, and somehow both of us are correct in the end, ya dig?

to the op, I still stand by my suggestion to run the factory spec oil, and full synthetic isn't expensive.

Are you done arguing with yourself now? It's not opinion when GM specs the oil for the same engine in varying applications. That's all.
