1.85 rockers VS 1.70
 

What will the change be if I keep my stock cam and change the rockers to 1.85? Cam specs with 1.85 info please

Divide your lift by 1.7 and multipy by 1.85. I think?!

I too have wondered if this was a worth while mod. I would like to turn a few more rpm and don't want to do it with my stock springs. If I'm going to change springs it wouldn't be any extra trouble to chage the rockers as well.

There are a couple of people who did this on the Avalanche site and got about 7HP. One of the guys is very methodical and intelligent, and he said rockers are pretty much the only mod he would not have done, if he had it to do over again.

This falls in line pretty much with what other people have said, which is, if you're going to spend the time and money (which is about $400 in parts), just put a cam in there with the lift you want.

I agree that there's more bang for the buck in a cam but I wouldn't do a cam change without changing the springs. To change the springs your going to have the rockers off anyway and since I can't afford to do both at the same time, I could do the rockers and springs and have a valve train that could stand a more agressive cam whenever I can afford to do it.

Your probably right though. It might be best to just do the springs now and put the $400 away till I can do the cam.

You can actually get away with a cam swap for less than $400.

I just sold a set of brand-new LS6 springs for $80 on EBay, and GM has two cams which would give a nice boost over stock:

It must be a fairly worthwhile mod because the people at choo-choo customs offer it as part of a RSR package that boosts a 4.8L up to 330hp. Along with intake, exhaust and headers of course. I'd be willing to bet they would need a decent tune to get that engine there as well. I kind of doubt they would go through all the labor/expense to change those rockers if it wasn't making more than 7hp. Check it out:RSR

The rocker arm change is not a bad mod for someone looking for a 10-15hp increase with no loss of drivibility.If you want more power or want to raise your rev range go with a cam.Don't add the rockers and then have to take them off when you add a cam later on.

Are you talking 10-15HP at the wheels? I think you'd be hard pressed to get 15 RWHP out of a set of rockers, only because all I've heard is 5-7 RWHP from the people who have done rockers only, with dynos before and after.

I put a small cam (205/212, .540/.548, 114) in my 5.3L Avalanche with the stock torque converter and experienced no loss in driveability, and I gained 15 RWHP across the band, 20 RWHP peak. It felt amazingly different right off the line. I was very pleased.

Those cams from GM above have nearly the same specs as the one I had. If I had been aware of them prior to purchasing my Cam Motion cam, I may have gone with one of those instead and saved $150-$200.

Also, those cams above don't require 918 springs, you can get away with the cheaper LS6 springs, which is a big plus, both price-wise and noise-wise.
