Default *scratches head* Rebuild transmission.. reverse worked.. now its?

Rebuild the transmission, stuck it in, went for a test drive. Having some issues with shifts, but I think its due to my new separator plate. But I encountered a new problem....

Reverse worked fine a couple times. Went out for a hard run after adding some fluid... parked in the driveway after the run. Turned truck off. did some things. got back in the truck, put in reverse... and it didn't roll back.. Its on an incline it is like the brakes are on but they are not. It drives forward fine.

any ideas while im pulling the plan off.

I can push it around It's quite bizzare...

I drove it from my house to a friends house. parked in his driveway, shut it down came back 5 mins later and started it up. put in reverse, didnt move, gave it some gas.. nothing happened..

got out and tried to push it while in reverse.. nada.

put it in neutral while running and i was able to push it.

Did you ever get it fixed? Mine is doing the same thing. Except it will go about half a wheel turn and lock up.

Not yet. I haven't pulled the transmission out yet. I will probably pull it out tomorrow.

I doubt it's what happened to you(well, hopefully not), but that sounds exactly like what happened to my trans when i broke off the lugs in the case and killed the sprag. Reverse felt like it was "locked up" and all other gears were fine.

Finally got off my ***.

Took the trans out of the truck today. Been researching local shops lately. I found one that I feel comfortable with. Took it down there as a bench job. They offered to let me watch them tear it down which I did. It was pretty depressing to see them take it apart...

The fluid was blacker then a sharpie marker. Forward clutches and the 3/4 pack was SMOKED. Metal on Metal. There was no clutch material left on the clutches.

There was a cross leak on the input shaft due to damaged teflon seals.. My fault.

Anyway they said that it was put together pretty good minus the seals so that made me feel better about myself.

Sad... my new torque converter is boned.. it only had 2 miles on it.

Lesson learned!

Sorry to hear about that, Unfortunatly it does happen pretty often with self builds.Thats why my advice is .
1-if its to save money DONT
2-if its to save time DONT

If its soley to learn and money nor time are and issue then its cool to try it.

Indeed. Was pretty cool seeing all the carnage I have to admit. I've never seen clutch disks warp.
