Default What is up with offset and backspace

Sorry wasn't sure what forum to post this in but..

If you have a 9" wheel with 5" backspace. How is it even possible to have a 0 offset? Am I missing something here or are the specs off for the wheels?

I thought you simply divided wheel width by 2 to get your center line. Then subtracted your forward spacing from backspacing and whatever the difference is was your offset.

A 9” wheel will measure 10” wide. So 5” backspacing is 0 offset. Most wheels are 1” wider then they are classified as. Wheel width is measured inside bead surface to surface. Back spacing is measured from lug mounting surface to the outside of rim.

Thanks CCrowell2 that makes sense. So you basically need to subtract a 1/2" from ether side of the wheel to get the right measurements when you measure from the outside of the wheel. Cool
