Tru-Trac the 10b or build the 14b

I know a lot of guys are making some pretty good power on the 10 bolt with a tru trac. Flacco, Foose etc..Im trying to decide if I should spend the time and money to built the 14 bolt(moving perches, rebuild, set up for disc brakes etc) I have, or just put a tru-trac in my 10 bolt and leave it for now. I would save quite a bit of money and weight by sticking with the 10 bolt.

Its going to be a heads/cam/fbo Lq4 in a 99 rcsb 4x4. 4l80e with a 3600+ converter. Most of the time i imagine I will launch in 4x4 and if i'm in 2wd, the tires are going to spin on a hard launch.

I have a tru-trac in my tahoe 10 bolt with the 6.0. I blew up 2 stock rear ends with a g80 in them before finally putting a tru trac in. Thats 6200 lbs plus 24s with a 6.0 and its held up great, not to mention all of the extra weight over the rear. I would think in a lighter truck with lighter wheels and less weight over the rear I should be ok. I dont have any plans of going FI at this time, and I only have $100 into the 14b, so I can keep it around for a rainy day.

Anyone have anything to convince me one way or another?

as long as your rocking 4wd the trutrac in the rear will be fine. its not like you hitting it with alot of nitrous or FI.

wheel hop kills them fast tho

ya i dont plan on running slicks or anything, no track anywhere near me..most likely I will have stock 20s with a 29" tire or so..3.73 gears..I figure I should be ok, for now haha.

I will be at a 4/6 with a flip kit and some nice shocks. If wheel hop is an issue, I will throw some trac bars on for peace of mind.

well there ya go! that was easy.

I concur, throw a girdle on the 10-bolt with a truetrac and you'll be fine, especially if most hard launches will be in 4x4 to distribute the power. I have been thoroughly impresses with how much my 10bolt has taken with just a girdle and Eaton posi.

what girdle do you guys recommend?

I've been thoroughly impressed with how much my 10 bolt G80 has taken, with zero mods. Going on 3 years of hard launches in 2 and 4 wheel. I'm putting in my fourth transmission this weekend though. It will my third 4L80.

what does the girdle actually do? just basically strengthen the housing?I guess ive never paid attention when people have talked about them

it puts slight pressure on the main caps to help them from deflecting..
the main cap bolts are goin to stretch to an extent. this just helps them hold on to dear life.
