Transmission running hotter
 

I have an 80 swap and 40k cooler. I live in Florida and obviously it's warmer out. However in 75-80 degree weather I ran 150-155 trams temp. Now I run 185-190. Trams has about 10k miles on it. I'm going to do a fluid and filter change again soon. What are your thoughts on bypassing the internal cooler in the radiator if I don't see an improvement.

Bypass the cooler! The engine coolant is heating up your trans.

X2. I bypassed mine and with the 40K cooler and a circle d 265mm 2800 stall I'm right at 150° in 100° weather in the city.

My 80e with 40k cooler in 100F weather gets up to 140F. 3400 stall. I bypassed the radiator.

Thanks for the input, that was my thought because my trans with a 4000 stall never saw over 150 normal driving. I now know what my next little task is this week, thank you

Bypass it if you like, but don't leave it like that when the weather cools off. You want it to bring the trans up to temp quicker instead of letting it run cold.

Lutz Fl averages 50+ degrees during cold months so no need to worry about running to cold.

Yeah bypass the radiator cooler it will run cooler with the 40k trucool. Mine runs around 150-180 in crappy Tampa traffic during rush hour stop and go in this heat and won't get past 120 on the high way and thats in my 2500hd.

If traffic is bad, I hit 200. Bypass commencing.

Getting that high isn't technically bad though, the transmission fluid isn't in any danger with temps that warm. Fluid does have a longer life with temps in the 150-170 range though. It's all personal preference I guess.
