Default transmission hot message

I just got my new trans this week. 03 sierra k 1500. it has a 5.3 with a front mount turbo. i never had the trans getting hot before. i have a 3400 stall. it only seems to get hot when i get on back roads where i am on and off the throttle. i installed a new cooler with the trans. it didnt do this with the pevious transmissions. any ideas?

What kind of cooler do you have? I believe that message is triggered at around the 280 degree mark, and at that temp your trans is not going to last very long. Does the torque converter ever lockup?

Higher stall converters definitely cause more heat, but it sounds like the cooler line is clogged or something. It should never get that hot.

if a cooler line is clogged, I would get it fixed asap because you could be starving your planetary of lube.

EXACTLY the same thing happened to me...I ended up replacing my cooler and discovered a kinked line. Make sure its good good airflow as well...tune also plays a part regarding shift points and lockup, but u seem to have that under control. I'd suggest changing fluid if u drove it too far after the msg...u can tell if the fluid burnt. R/

Definitely get it fixed ASAP and don't drive it until you do! Check all the cooler lines for kinks, and make sure that they aren't laying against the headers...

Message comes on at 262 degrees, definitely not good for a trans.
