Trans Temps
#11
Personally i like to see my tranny always stay a little cooler than engine jacket water temps, but without an additional cooler after the integrated one thats in your rad it won't happen under various driving conditions. Good thing you bought the oversize cooler, a cool transmission is always a happier transmission
If you still have problems keeping the heat down you can always add a deep pan, preferably cast aluminum with finning, for the the best heat transfer. This will also just provide with additional fluid to be circulated through the trans, prolonging the service interval and increased rigidty of the whole unit, not as though the whole case usually fails.

it was just that one time for some reason...got back to the house and had to tighten the sending unit a little cuz there was a little fluid dribbling out. made two 30 mile trips today and didn't see over 180

How long are you driving it in town for? Hills? I don't believe that it matters which one is in or out, I know I have the exact same cooler and I didn't pay attention to that. Your highway temps seem fine. City seems a little high but I don't believe that it will damage anything. you could always get a small, stand alone electric fan to mount on it.

yeah but i was seein those same temps without my cooler...drivin around town for 30min or so...i was just letting idle this mornin for about 30 min and it got to 180...granted in efi live it reads around 60* cooler...oh well...if it gets f*cked up its under warranty

Over 225 and I start getting worried as the heat usually starts building up pretty quickly, especially when the truck is loaded up. Heat kills transmissions, and even more so for the 4L60E as these things can break easily under stock power levels.
