Tranny life ???
#1
We all know that the 4L60's are going to go out eventually. But I am looking right now at a 2002 Chevy RCSB with 4.8 Liter and it is completely stock but has about 85,000 miles on it. Will be trading in my girls 04 Sierra, giving her my Z71, and me taking the RCSB to build and drive to and fro.
I know it will be a matter of time before the tranny goes if I get it, but I was wondering what could be done to just make it last for a while, we are buying a house and while I have the money right now for the tranny, it is supposed to be going to earnest money and land/house appraisals, etc... Would it be advisable once I bought the truck to go in and at least check the trans for excessive wear, change out and add the zinc seperator plate, shift kit, servo, and any other hard parts that you can think of? I'm not planning on modding it heavily at least not right away, I mean eventually it will be heads/cam package, full bolt-ons, etc.... truck. Just would want the trans to last for a few months, let me get into the new home and get finances settled and all with that.

i would think a shift kit and servos would help get you through and give you piece of mind as well as performance, and when your ready to rebuild you'll already have these pieces to reuse, a shift kit will reduce wear on your bands by shifting faster and crisper, reduceing slippage that wears down your bands. just my 2 cents, good luck.
