Default Is this normal?????

I installed my 4.10 ring and pinion into my 03 gmc this weekend and i hear that it is making a whining noise when i go between the speed of 45 and 55 mph, and thats it. No other time do i hear a noise! It is not loud and i have to cut the radio off and pick the windows up to hear it. I installed it to the spec that the company (motive gear) sent me. I set my backlash to .010 and set my pinion load to +/-2 just like they said. It also track like the picture showed in the diagram when i put the marking paint on the gear. Also i changed the bearings that the kit came with. I'm just wondering if this is normal and the noise will go away? I do not even have 100 miles on the gears yet, and i do not want to ruin them.

Just my 2 cents, but I think even with the perfect install, your going to get a certain amount of whine from aftermarket gears. If you listen hard enough even some stock gears whine a bit. If its just a low whine, I wouldn't worry about it. My Richmond 3.90's whined something fierce in my old crew cab. I doubt the noise will go away completely, but will most likely soften up slightly.

If you are confident that you installed everything correctly.

i noticed a whine in my stock 3.73 gears at certain speeds at a certain throttle. i used to be a tech for jaguar, every single car had a tiny whine at certain speeds with light throttle. its amazing what some old people can hear. anyway i think i a little whine will be normal expecially with aftermarket gears.

wait untill they break in and then check your backlash

i say go back in after 5000 miles if it still bothers you then

otherwise

your fine

It's normal. Add some friction modifier to quite it down. It worked wonders on my 4.56s. Even though GM doesnt spec the additive, it doesn't hurt

Alright, thanks for the comments! I feel alot better about my slight whine now. Just wanted to make sure that it was not something serious
