spring clamp questions
 

I have spring clamps on my truck currently, these are on the front side of the leaf springs. I was wondering if there would be any advantage or dis-advantage to adding another set to the rear of the leafs?

Reason I ask is I know that the clamps on the front lowered my truck about an extra 1/2", maybe just slightly less, but very close. I have belltech 2" shackles also. With the tire height I am running, I like the stance, but am wanting to go with a 1" or 1.5" drop coil spring in the front and was thought adding spring clamps to the rear might drop another 1/2" in the rear giving me the stance I am wanting to acheive. But I don't want to do this at the risk of damage to the suspesion. I just thought this might be an easy way to get my drop, I really don't want to mess with hangers, and have been unable to locate the mysterious 3" shackle.

I think the only disadvantage to adding another set is that it will make the ride absolutely horrible, I've heard it's pretty rough. If that doesn't bother you I'd go for it, they should drop it some more.

Yeah, well thats what I was wondering. Right now the truck rides great and I have no complaints about anything with it. I didn't know what adding another set on would do to affect the truck in general so the heads up is greatly appreciated. any other imput also appreciated.

I'm definitely not looking to beat my ass up with an extremely harsh ride.

I've had 2 sets of spring clamps on my truck at one time. The extra set dropped it another 1/2" but the ride was terrible. I rode around with them on for about 3 days and decided to take them off. The extra 1/2" wasn't worth it, IMO.

why not just remove the overload completely? You could still use the clamp on the front to prevent axle wrap.

If you need to prevent bottoming or you tow, get a helper bag setup.

I am removing my overload when I do my rear swap this weekend... I have a set of lakewoods that kill alot of the axle wrap and hop though... I may even add spring clamps to those.

Some spring clamps look like U-bolts (which I have). You can pick up a set of spring clamps at any Autozone, Pep Boys, etc. I always see them in the suspension section or truck accessories (aka tacky) section. :jest:
