Default spacer needed?

I'm gonna swap an 80e pretty soon. I've read of people need a crank spacer or something like that. How do I know ifi need one? Ill have the flex plate converter and transmission all from the same truck.

Yes you need the spacer, it goes between the flexplate and crank. It should be on the flexplate pretty good on a used one, they don't tend to come off too easily.

Some companies can build the converter with a 60E bolt pattern so you can use a 60E flexplate and no spacer.

The TCI 80E flexplate has the spacer built in.

These guys are correct. If you are running a stock 4L80 converter, then you need the spacer and the flat flexplate. If you are getting a custom converter built, then things can change based on what bolt pattern you want to use. And most aftermarket SFI flexplates will have the spacer built into them. One thing to add is to watch out for the early model long crank, it essentially has the spacer built into the crank. It will use the flat flexplate and no spacer and has to use the 6 lug 4L80 style front cover.
