Slide it in as you’re putting the bolt in? Then rotate the crank.

I use a small head pen magnet go through the big hole in the bottom of the bell housing while the hole I’m aiming for is in the starter spot. Stab a bolt through the washer and move on to the next. Don’t tighten them until all the washers are in.

Ok good. So Circle D sends with the converter three new bolts with two washers apiece, one thicker than the other. Should I use the thin or thick one?

Don't guess on which washer...measure it

Use a bit of thick axle grease to stick the washer to the converter. This isn't hard

Here’s how I did it. I had an extendable magnet I bought from O’reily, the on with the LED light. Popped it off and used it with another one and placed the magnets on either side of the bolt hole. Slide the washer in place at the bottom of the bell home and then rotated flywheel to the starter position. I took a harbor freight pick and heated it up to bend it around the flywheel so I could retrieve my magnets. Once I got all the washers and bolts in place I gauges it with a 1/8” drill bit. The 1/8” washer was tight. I hope this helps someone in the future

I don't think you know how to measure the clearance.

You measure the clearance with the converter all the way seated in the trans...not bolted up

If you installed those washers and didn't need them...you can kiss your pump goodbye...and maybe engine thrust bearing
