I still have warranty but if it was cheap enough to buy I'd just replace it myself. Its tough to get around without a vehicle even for a day. |
I did the grease procedure about a year and a half ago on mine...it's a piece of cake. The grease kit cost like $12 if I remember correctly. So far it's held up pretty well.

I took my mom's 02 suburban to a dealership and they replaced it no charge. It had 50,000 miles on it so of course it was out of warranty. If you complain enough about it they will do it if they were initially reluctant. They know its a problem.

Whats the deal with the int. steering shaft? I've heard some others talk about it but never got the scoop on what the problem was, just curious.

It gets this clicking or knocking sound and vibration. It always happened to me mainly when taking turns and the suspension was moving at the same time (sometimes it would also happen just going straight on an uneven road). It's very annoying but thats about it. I've never heard of anything actually failing in the steering because of it, thats probably why there was never an official recall.

It is not a cheap fix.In fact i am takin my truck back in about 20 min to get it fixed at the dealer. They are under warrenty and i do think it is a recall prob aswell.

Shouldn't have to pay a durned thing. I got mine done at the dealership for free. Parts free/labor free. I have a warranty, but even not, I'd bet you could get it done free. Just bring up the service bulletin.

Thanks guys, guess I'll just take it in.
