Default Rear end questions for silverado

So i have 2008 4x4 130,xxx miles silverado nbs ext cab reg. Bed. Im putting a cam, 3000 stall, porting the heads. I need to upgrade the gears and im thinking of going with 4.3. I have 33s on 24s. First question is WHAT REAR END DO I HAVE from factory? Is it the 14 bolt 9.5"? Is the 14 bolt referring to the cover bolts or the bolts on the ring? Also while i rebuild my rear end what els needs to be upgraded? Should i put a new differential in it? I wont ever have this truck on track i just use it as a truck to cruise and take out on the weekends. I also want to put the same gears in my front diff. I do not take it off road but if i ever need the 4 wheel drive i would like to use it. What upgrades are needed for the front besides just doing new ring, pinion, seals, seats and bearings? Thanks for the help. And yes i do have the 4l60e and it will be rebuilt eventually but im sticking with it untill i do the 4l80 swap.

If your truck is a regular 1500, it's the 8.6" 10-bolt. If it's a HD, or 2500 up, it's the 9.5" 14-bolt. Yes the 14-bolt refers to the bolts on the cover. Get up under it and look: the 10-bolt is more or less round, the 14-bolt looks lopsided and has square-looking parts. If the differential is a Gov-Lock, yes you should get rid of it and put in something better; TrueTrac or Eaton posi would probably be best. Yes of course the front gears MUST be changed at the same time, otherwise in 4WD, one end of the truck will always be trying to go at a different speed from the other, which is incredibly stressful on the entire drive train not to mention pretty bad for gas mileage. I would consider new rear axles at the same time if it's a C-clip rear.

I went with motive gears for my 4:56 only because amazon had them open box for 125.00 front and rear. However, do not get their master bearing/install kits for 11-14 3/4 ton silverado as I didn’t use any of the parts in the kits. The bearings were wrong, ring gear bolts were wrong and the gaskets were wrong. Ended up ordering all new parts from rock auto. I recommend doing the solid spacer instead of crush if you are a newbie.

Newbie question. Is the pinion different for the front vs the back? Some of them say rear ring and pinion ans some just say ring and pinion, no front.

Ring and pinion will be different sizes for both front and rear as the front will have a smaller ring gear and with that requires a smaller pinion to mesh with the gears.
