Pop pop pop pop........ Wtf????

I haven't heard it in a while but I haven't stall launched in a while either. But about 6 months ago maybe more I stalled up the hoe and launched. There was this real fast popping noise. Say 10-20 pops or ticks. I've heard it before a long time ago. I thought was cv's but I replaced them the day before this. So I thought tcase chain. I just opened it and it all looks good. Chain seems ok and only wear I found on the teeth looks like its just from the chain driving them. So what could it be?? When I put the Trans back in I'm going to check the front diff fluid. But I rebuilt the front diff just maybe 2 years ago. Surely that's not it. So what else should I check. It doesn't happen often. Like I said last time was about 6 months ago when I boosted launched.

Now when it happened the steering was off too. I can't remember if it was more or less torque steer. I just remember thinking it felt funny. I know that doesn't help much. :)

Me too. I want to go to the track sometime but if something is about to break I want to fix it first. Lol

Could it be the torson bar mount mounts? Worn out and popping back and forth with the torque steer?

The viscous coupling in the tcase is going out.. Prety common problem on the awd SSS's..Think they run about 550 for the coupling on ebay :)

We see this all the time at the shop and would have to agree with Andrew.

Sometimes you can find an entire t-case with low miles for less than a new silicone jelly clutch, too.

What makes it pop like that? I'd like to know more. Would/could this cause alot of tire scrub in tight turns or do they do that anyway? If it goes out out will it be able to move at all?

I found this one for a "deal" to replace my 4482 borgwarner. When I got it the Bering were rusted the rear case half was shot from bad bearing. I had to take apart a auto trac case and rob bearings and the rear case half. Along with the gears. So I'm Leery on getting a used one again. Then again the needle bearing inside the gear the planet rides on are pretty ruff from the rust. They are clean now but pitted.
