I have been hoping this would be updated by the OP. I have spent a fair amount of time looking under my truck to visualize how a rack could be fit and it looks like A LOT of fab needs to happen. I may try a later model steering box, the box in my 2005 GMC 4x4 Sierra feels much better than the older trucks ever did.

As far as I know, the 99-06 4x4 trucks used a steering box while the 2 wheelers used a rack and pinion.
