Yea no doubt. I’ve got a 99 NP246 I’m hoping to stuff into my suburban with the 80e swap as it came with the trans but the suburban is a 2004! Dam! Good thing is the t case was free. Looks like I’ll have to figure out the actuator issues out the old fashioned way. Trial and error or I suppose I could take the input shaft from the 4l80e t case and swap that into my current t case which is matted to a 60e with no second gear. I guess I didn’t think about that. Anyone here know if that’s the way to go? Take the input shaft from the ‘99 246 and swap into the ‘04 246? As the newer 246 was built for the 60e and I’m swapping the 60e with an 80e. just like the rest of us I’m trying to minimize downtime and hoping for some insight before I get dirty. The truck in my sig is parked for the winter so I’m down to 1 set of wheels.

If you have both the 99 to 02 and 03 to 07 cases, have a shop swap the shaft for the encoder and it's a done deal. The input shaft from the 4L60e will not work on a 4L80E or vice versa. Spline counts are different, 27 vs 32, if memory serves.

The input can be changed out easily by a skilled Driveline guy.

The splines are different coming out of the transmission. 27 to 32.

thats only true when changing transmissions

4L60: 27 spline (all)
4L80: 32 spline (all)

year of case does not dictate spline count. The transmission it was behind is the dictator
