List the details to your 4l60E Death

I was wondering if you guys wanted to post your tranny deaths and maybe some details behind it. :bomb:

30,000+ miles and still going strong. Amazing considering the mods and weight (6,000 lbs with me in it). Course, I don't drive like a crazy man, so that helps.

stock 60e--bad install from an idiot caused it to go at 30,000.
first built 60e--downshift and snapped the output shaft-33,000.
second built 60e--hit the button on an 8th mile track after getting grip and wam-second ouptut shaft-52,000.
jag performance built 80e--in and doin kick ass.

I floor my truck atleast 5 times everytime Im in it..... 70,000 miles going strong...

I like my trans... I think GM has upgraded a little since my 96 suburban... went out @26000 miles and agian at 83,000miles was slipping when I sold it at 121,000

I floored the shit outta that one as well+

72000KMs on stock 4l60E works good, but can't handle a WOT shift without TM.

I was going to build up my 4l60, but now I am leaning towards a 4L80E. I think a built 4l60E would have no problem holding the current power level, but I am planning to add a little boost via a rear mounted T70.

Blew mine during 1-2 WOT shift from a bad shift kit install, few holes where they shouldn't have been is what I was told, that combined with a weak tooth on the planetary, it ruined the core. The jag 65e works great though and i'm hoping to spray on it before long

TG02Z71 02-21-2005 05:49 AM

Don't know if mines dead yet but this is the early sign something is wrong.

45,000 miles/ less than 1000 with the STS base kit and driving like a granny with it.

Trouble code.
P0741 Torque Converter Clutch Circuit Performance or Stuck Off

Is it on its way out?? Who knows, I think noone know here as I have got no response in the truck section anyway.

Is there someone on the board I cam PM that know tranny stuff well?
Let me know guys, I am desperate right now.

FIRST 4L60: broke the sprag into pieces, 3/4 cltch pack burnt, and band stretched out caused by hard launchas on slicks.

SECOND 4L60: snapped the input shaft while flooring it in first with good traction.

Current Trans: Locally built 4L65 with 2000 stall.

My first one just started slipping in third with no modifications to the tranny whatsoever. I got edit and a servo and only prolonged it's death. Replaced under warranty.
Second tranny had edit tunning, vette servo, B&M SuperCooler and Yank TT3000. It lasted for about six months till I put the 2K vette cam in. On the test drive it started getting warm, then started squeeling on the 1-2 shift. Got progressively warmer and worse on the 10 mile trip home till eventually just went BANG and wouldnt go anymore. After teardown discovered it grenaded the input pinions, tosted all clutches and band and mushroomed the input shaft into the drum. Replaced under warranty and put me on the black list. :D
A week after getting the new tranny I installed a Transgo and the vette servo, reworked tt3000 (now a 3200) and everything seems to be working well after about 14 months.
