Unhappy I found out on the Fwy that I don't have Reverse Lockout

Well, I accidentally threw it into reverse while I was doing about 65mph tonight and ended up locking up the rear wheels and fish-tailing for a short bit before I was able to throw it into neutral...

Didn't seem to do any lasting damage or any damage at all but I'm no tranny expert. I'm sure I stressed out the tail-shaft a little bit but, keeping my fingers crossed for now that nothing bad happened.

Anybody know if the lock-out switch is a mechanical thing or something in the tune??

Damn I'll bet that got your attention.

I don't know about the lock out switch, so I'm looking forward to somebody answering your question.

Whew, I'm surprised that you didn't damage the trans, glad that it's OK. I'd believe that the lock out would be mechanical, but I'm not sure, just guessing...

the lock out switch is built into the tranny IIRC. if yours is built well it probably didn't cause any irreparable damage.

Well if that's the case than that explains why my truck didn't blow up!
My tranny is an FLT Level-5 4L80e... I bought it for my last truck that was putting down 1000 chp. I threw it in this truck for the time being until I get more power through it but if the only reason why it didn't blow up on me is because of those great guys at FLT than I owe them a damn beer!!
I'm gonna call them tomorrow just to be sure though, I wouldn't be surprised if I twisted some splines or spindles or whatever the hell else is in these transmissions, but I hope I didn't! I'll also ask them about the reverse lock out, I'd rather not have that happen again.
Oh...there's also video of it!! But I didn't shoot it so I'll see if he can't post it up.

Yeah Dave wanted me to do some fly-by's and what not while on the freeway, I dropped it down a few gears to do it and then when I went to put it back into D from 2nd gear it slipped a few more notches into R! ....
