Holding on to my wallet for dear life...
Well, I'm finally getting everything ready to do the 4L80E swap into my rcsb. I've got a list of everything that I think I will need and I've done quite a bit of searching on here and other sites to make sure I have what I need. Here's the list so you guys can look over and check:
-FLT Level 4 4L80E -Modified Crossmember -Circle D Converter w/ ARP Bolts -Speartech Upgrade Harness -Hose, ends, and misc. stuff to extend the rear cooler line -Dust cover & bolts -4L80E 1350 Slip Yoke for the driveshaft going into the trans -1350 Pinion Yoke w/ new seal & 1350 U-joints -GM Factory Dipstick & Tube I'm debating on which way to go with the flexplate. Whether to get a SFI Approved 4L80E 6-lug flexplate and spacer and get the converter with the 6-lug option of course or should I just leave the stock 5.3 LS-style flexplate that uses 3-lugs and get the converter modified from Circle D to match the 3-lug. I really don't like using a spacer in-between the flexplate and crank if I don't have to. Wondering if there is a major difference in strength when it comes to the 3-lug VS. the 6-lug. The reason for the 1350 joints is that I might as well upgrade them while I'm doing the swap...cheap insurance. Do I need the 4L80E Shifter Cable Bracket (PN15013290) as well or will the bracket off of my 4L60E work? |
I like the thread title. Im having the same problem with doing my built 60e swap. Shits freakin' money!
|
you will need to get the 80e shifter cable bracket. 4l60e one is different. NSS is the same though
|
Thanks Zach. I was wondering if I really would need it. Better to find out now then while the truck is in the air. I thought you might like the tread title. Haha

The new design factory 4l80e flexplate is a much nicer piece than the 4l60e flexplate IMO. I've used both the 4l80e flexplate/6 bolts and the 3 bolt conversion converter and either way I don't think it makes a difference. The conversion converter is just easier because you don't have to change flexplate.s

You didnt mention if it was 2wd or 4wd...
in either case you need to get a tune for the new trans as well, and you need 2 speed sensors, you trans may already have them in it though. |
Good luck with your swap bud, seems like lots of are finally doing it at this time.
Atomic and Brent1976 and others here have been very helpful here on this subject, Kudos!! |
GMCtrk do you have a GM PN for the flexplate? I take it that flexplate will need the spacer inbetween the flexplate and crank as well?
Atomic, the truck is 2wd. I'm hoping to re-use the stock shaft with the new yokes and just having it rebalanced but, we will see. Thanks guys! |
LOL at the thread title, I like that
Circle-D offers a hi-perf flexplate for a decent price, might be worth a look. Not sure if they offer one for an 80E or not but I would have to *assume* that they do. |

It comes with the flexplate, spacer, and 6 bolts with blue loctite on them. I paid around $77 at the dealership. GMpartsdirect has it for $44, but I didn't want to wait, pay shipping, and I also heard their CS sucked (in case there were any problems). |
