Has anyone seen a Gear Vendor Overdrive on newer 4L80e?
Wondering if anyone on here is running a gear vendor unit in their trucks. The only downfall I can see in these things is the price. Any input?

bansheerider44 has one behind his th400, (he's TurboMic on ls1 truck). All that behind an lsx427 w/ twins. What are you looking for....double overdrive?

What are you looking to do? Make a 5spd?

Actually it would be an 8 speed. You can find them in the wrecking yard for around $150 It's the parts that will kill you. The adapter is like $600
They were factory installed in some Volvo's |
Well I have to run 3.42's so my truck is highway friendly. I need it to travel back and forth to school. And with 3.42's i don't really like my loose converter. If I could run 4.56's and be able to hop on the freeway and cruise at 80mph, that would be well worth the money IMO. Also, my converter would better suite my set up. Plus I would like to start drag racing my truck a lot more. And it just seems to good to be true to have 1st, over, 2nd, over, 3rd, over, 4th, double over. It would never get out of the powerband with the new ratios. I just havne't seen anyone put a gear vendor on a 2000+ performance minded truck.

My gpa has been a distributor of gear vendor products for years and years. He tells me 10 times a year that I should put one in my truck. I've just never pulled the trigger.

Yea I mean with a 4l80e. I've seen lots of th400 and th350 with GV's. I'd really like to see somone shifting any kind of automatic with a GV at WOT. Can you shift from first to 1stover and then strait into second. Or do you have to turn off the gear vendor before shifting into 2nd? Does that make sense?

I found the whole set up with electronics in a Ford 1 ton dually with the added on deep sump which is like an additional $200. The problem is the parts are so expensive. It was like $600 for a rebuild kit and the Chevy adapter was another $600. Hell the unit alone starts around $2600 depending on the application. |

It splits the gears. My understanding is you can use it to split all the gears. So 1st then GV on, then 2nd then GV on, Then 3rd then GV on, then 4th and then GV on. It has a brain box and I believe it works off the trans signal. You can also use a floor mounted switch to manually control it.

My question is: once you split a gear, do you have to turn the gv off when upshifting? So if you are in 1st over and you shift it into 2nd, will it go strait to 2nd over if you don't turn the GV off? Or will it shift into 2nd normally |
