Has anyone broken a 4l80e
Has it been done?
I have the chance of getting a i think 2002 or 2003 4l80e for 600$ is this bueno? It sounds pretty good, If i get it i want to do a 3000 Circle D Converter with a trans cooler. Also since the 1st gear ratio on the 4l60e is lower than 4l80e will i experience some sluggishness when i get the 4l80?? i have 3.42's and i plan on keeping them because i want to go TURBO. I heard that since the 1st and 2nd gear ratios are closer on the 4l80e the rpm drop isn't as bad as it is on the 4l60 causing me to fall out of my power band, is this true? 4l60e-------------------4l80e 1st-3.059:1----------- 2.482:1 2nd-1.625:1-----------1.482:1 3rd-1.000:1--------- -1.000:1 4th-0.696:1---------- 0.750:1 |

Swerve broke the crapola out of one. I think he was running something like 10.8's. Broke the bellhousing and everything. It would make you cringe just to see the broken parts he had. I will see if I can find a link.

They break but not as easy as the 60Es. Heavier internal parts and the shallow first gear it will be a little slower to get off the line but it's more than worth the upgrade. I actually prefer the 1-2 shift on the 80, you don't lose nearly the RPMs you do with the 60 so it doesn't fall on it's ass. Topic has been covered about 1000 times over though ;).
