Getting ready to order gears
 

Project: Git-R-Done is about to get under way. I'm was originally going to run 3.73's, but now that I've got the 80-e swap going I'm guessing that the 4.10s are going to be the best choice? I have a 3200-stall converter and plan on running a 27-28" tall DR/slick.

The truck isn't a daily driver by any means, but I still want to be able to cruise around town comfortably. My 20's are 26.75" tall...is anyone else running 4.10 gears with a mcuh-shorter-than-stock tire?

I would run a 4.10 with a 28" tall tire for performance. The 3.73 would make it a slightly better driver though. 4.10/ 28" tire- you would be looking at 3000 rpm highway roughly.

With the 20's, the 80-e and 4.10s, 3000rpm = 78mph. According to the same calculator, my current setup would be 100mph in OD at 3000rpm. Yikes! I had forgotten that the 80-e's OD is 0.75 instead of the 60-e's 0.70.

Hmm, this is going to be a little harder a pill to swallow. I know that I probably need 4.10s...I wish the low 1st gear set wasn't so much. :(

What size of time for 20's is 26.75 in diam? If it's not your daily driver, go for the 4.10's

Ooops...255/35's are 27" according to Tire Rack's site. Would I loose THAT much by going w/ 3.73s or even staying w/ the 3.42s?

I think the 4.10's would be better for the 80e's transmission ratios.

Well guys, thanks for the input. Project: Git-R-Done is underway. I have an Eaton posi, 4.10 Motives, master install kit, T/A Girdle and a bottle of additive on their way!

I hope to drop the tranny off to get the shift kit installed early next week, and I'm going to order the exhaust stuff soon.

I was going to try to sell it, but realized how much work it was going to take to get it in saleable condition. I'd have to put the 4.8 back in and get the 60-e rebuilt to get the kinda money I needed to get for it. Plus, I really love the truck. I talked things over with my dad (I'm living w/ the parents still) and he basically said "build it while you can." So, it's getting built. I figured "what the hell." :D

My buddy told me the other day to just "Git-R-Done" because he was tired of hearing me bitch about not wanting to sell it, so that's what I decided to name the project. Right now, it consists of:

Rear end upgrade (gears/posi/girdle)
80-e install
forged 346 or 383 (most likely 383)

I'd like to get deep into the 12s on the motor, and after a heads/cam/intake swap later this year, maybe even into the 11s. :devil:
