Default Gear Install

Ok im thinking of installing my gears myself next weekend. Motive 4.10 w/ Eaton LSD. What are the clearances? My friend is gettin a Dial Indicator from his Automotive tech teacher. But im goin to try to get a guy over there and let him show us how to check. Im just tryin to stay away from that $320 install. Even if i mess this set of gears up im still cheaper than goin with that install.

I just have to get some Shims, and Bearings, then ill be ready for them.

What do yall think??

I get the back lash set and then use gear paint to check the patterns...

Its not that hard, it can take some time, just stay picky. Don’t settle of less than perfect....
I'll be making a write up on this soon.

if you are going with 4.10s you can use the stock pinion shim (i think its .036) It sets the pinion depth in there pretty well from what i saw on my truck. If i were you I would PM "axisT6." He did my gear install and knows a ton about gears.

ok, thanks guys...
Just for a Gear/Posi install, if i bring all needed parts. Gears, Posi, Bearings, Gear Fluid, Seals.. yall get the point.. it will cost $320..
Even if i screw this set up, and it whines. I can get another set of gears, bearings, and still come out cheaper than that $320 from both sets...

So im goin to try it. heck if it works, i can say i did it myself..

Live and learn.. i guess..

Still goin to need a tranny though.. haha

Im not goin to try my luck on that one........

Don't forget to get a dial indicator. You can find them cheap on Ebay.
