Default Front differential gears

Guys,
I have a True Trac arriving today for the rear of my truck. Considering doing a complete gear swap. 4.10 or maybe the new 4.30 gears that have been recently released.

I can't find any info on the gears for the front diff. Are they the same as the rear? So if I wanted to swap out just buy two sets of the same ring and pinion?

They are not the same. Some gear ratio's are not available for the front, such as 3.90 I know 4.10's are am not sure about the 4.30's. Stay with OEM if you can.

Roger, your going to love that true trac! The front gears are reverse cut, so they are not the same, Try calling summit racings TECH LINE, dont bother with their ordering dept, they are morons, get the part #'s you need. Then look around and order. I think 4.10's would be great, especially since you have overdrive. BTW if the front diff is the same as a 3/4 ton then try a salvage yard for a set of front 4.10's

Thanks for the input guys. Guess I will be limited on what I can go to. Don't think I will get a great benefit to cost going 4.10. Maybe 4.56

Like you say Tim, for the cost of buying and installing gears I might be better off just finding a used front diff with gears in it. I see them go for less than $500 on e-bay.

It will be a bit before I install the Detroit. I have never installed a differential. Think I'll give it a try this time. It will take me weeks to "study" and get the necessary equipment to do it right.

i think you would be wasting your time going to 4:10's go to 4.56's and call it a day, one day i will.

I can see going to 4.10 with my setup (ours is similar - the 6.0) but traction is already an issue with 3.73's on the street. Might help on the track but thats a lot of torque going down to the ground.

if you want traction get big mudders it will help heh.

I think 4.56s would be too much for a street Z71 with a stock height wheel tire combo. Now if he was running 33s like you 04Black I could see it. KySilverado, you could always get the 4.10s right from GM, they were in the AWD SSS trucks, same diffs front and rear as your Z71...you could also snag a whole front diff out of one if you thought it would be cheaper.

Lets not forget you are supercharged and make good torque already in the low end.

Well i do agree in a way, if he were to snag a diff from somewhere persay a salage yard yea it would be worth it, since it would take much at all to throw it in.

i do see your points.
