Default Fluke or Symptom?

Two parts here.

First a few weeks ago when I started the truck I noticed the red light on the autotrac drive selector was on?? I could drive normal but until I put it into N and selected 2WD it wouldn't switch back to any other position.

Today I was hot rodding all over town, got my hair cut and jumped into the truck, threw it in drive and it wouldn't go, it just creeped. I could actually get into boost while gong 10mph without increasing wheel speed very much!

Putting the gear selector into:

First, normal.
Second, normal.
Third, normal.
Drive, and it would be normal as long as I was going fast enough, IT WASN'T SHIFTING OUT OF 4th!!

I looked over to the autotrac selector and noticed that red light again! I put it in N and selected 2WD and I'm good to go!!
It was half engaged in 4wd Lo.....wtf??

Symptom would be my guess. The switch, pretty common, or a lazy encoder motor alas fairly common also.

Haircut? I seen your avatar, you've needed 1 for awhile. To me, a fluke is a 1-time thing or sporadic/ intermittent. If it persists, now I call that a symptom.
IDK what yo problem is since I'm not 4wd, but seems to me I've heard before of what Ky said as faulty. Check on a part # ( ask ChevRacer... or others) . If not overly $$, try it.
You can @ least drive in 2wd tho. How often do u use your 4wd? U live in CA not MI. Can't be all that much. Go rip off all that 4wd **** & go run some 11.5s.

When I 1st saw title, I thought this would be a discussion on multimeters. I'd only heard of a "FLUKE".

lol, i use the 4wd whenever I get wot in the first 2 gears I am thinking Ky is right that the switch is playing it's end game. Scared the crap out of me none the less, relieved was I when I was able to put it back into gear.

btw, my hair is freshly cut in the avatar.

it souods like most likely a tcase selector switch is giving up on ya.... but i would take it in and get it scanned... too bad you dont live closer or i would scan it for ya....

either way... they do fail kinda often... and you get all kinds of funny stuff from lights... to the switch not working at all... to the tcase accidentally shifting in between gears.... (not the best thing for it)

ill bet you replace the switch your good to go chief

I thought they had the switch issue worked out by 2005. All I know is this Bill, I have a fresh 65E and TWO T-cases just dying to be shipped to California.

Replace the switch!
