Default Can a trans cooler be too big???

My 03 Sierra Denali has a small trans cooler that the previous owner added. My friend just gave me a Summit sum-g4969. It's an aluminum tube and fin that is 21x10.5 and 1.5 inch thick. Is there a disadvantage to this cooler? I do have a 3200 stall Circle D and other boltons along with a tune on my truck.

Due to it being a tube & fin design, I would venture to guess a cooler of those dimensions is probably in the 28K GVW range. There are so many people using the TruCool Max 40K GVW without problems, I doubt that you will have any issues.

You will not experience any negative issues/effects with a large trans cooler.

Thanks for the help guys. I am installing a new trans next week. I was going to put this in at the same time if it was ok, and it looks like I'm going to be.

if the temp is in the 50's or below it might take a bit of driving before your tc will lock up.

I don't know whether you done it or not, but you may be knock a little efficiency off by painting the cooler. It may be just enough so as to let a little more heat into the trans without resorting to adding a bypass.
