Deep or shallow pan

Hey guys my wife's 2002 I6 Trailblazer is due for a tranny service. What is a visual difference between the shallow and deep pan. Why are there two different pans for a Trailblazer? Any thoughts on an aftermarket cooler. It will be pulling a boat in the summer time. Thanks for the help

Jeremiah,
I'm not sure what pan the TB has. I would do a trans cooler for sure. They say it doubles the life of the trans. This is possible becouse the heat is what breaks down the fluid and destroys the transmission. Its not a bad investment, you can picke them up for around fifty bucks.

Thanks Chris

I agree with chris - the trailblazer is a hot running vehicle (we test them for thermal).
Especially if you plan on towing with it, Invest in a trans cooler.

Usually in your manual, they will give you the RPO code of the trans, M30..etc.. and tell you how many quarts it takes.
If not, call the dealer for a trans filter, and ask them, if its a deep pan or shallow.
They'll probably ask you for the RPO code of the trans.

Correct me if im wrong - but doesnt the front differential go through the oil pan on that vehicle?
If so...how do you replace the filter? Drop the axles??

Mabee thats the difference for Deep and Shallow pans.
Its a good question, because I ran into the same thing with my 99 GMC pickup.
M30 trans with a deep pan.

Lemme know. C

Mine is a 2WD. I do not have the owners manual, bought it used and it did not come with one. I will probably just buy both from the dealer and return the wrong one. Is the RPO code on the trans? I am going to check out the before and after temps when I install a trans cooler. I hope my HPTuners (00 F-body) scans that on the TB. I am out of town for a few weeks so I will not know until I return home. Just trying to get my ducks in a row before I get back. Thanks for the help.

MMM...might be on the tag. Usually its either on the drivers door, or in the glovebox.
Welcome, glad we could give info.
