Is it a creak, a squeak, or a squeal?

lubricate the boot at the firewall that wraps around the steering shaft. There is also a plastic bearing up under there that wears out sometimes. one of the two are most likely your issue.

check that boot. I swore up and down my suspension was making noise. it was the steering shaft rubbing the inside of that dry boot.

There is actually a TSB (#00-02-35-003L) on the clunking shaft (as most GMT800 owners already know). If the noise returns you may need to replace with the upgraded intermediate shaft part number GM 19153614.

My guess is you are good to go though

Same thing I've got on the tahoe.

Just ordered the newest GM intermediate shaft, GM steering bearing and the kent moore tool to lock the steering wheel. All in told, $120. I expect it to be back to new afterwards.

Curious why the tool for locking the wheel? Should just need a ratchet strap (or hell I even used a bungee cord) to prevent the wheel from turning; it has to turn farther than its normal limits to damage the clockspring.
