Ck Performance is really good plus great pricing and really fast shipping.. call them! Hp ranges... Stock internals - 500, Stock internals plus a 4340 input shaft - 750-800. After that your looking at billet input, intermediate, and a straight cut gear set. Your also going to need a 34 element sprag in anything over the 500hp limit.. This is the stock sprag used since pretty much the end of th the400 years. A 36 element sprag and super drum is always a good idea over 1,000hp and needed in harsh conditions. Stay away from patc! They know nothing about transmissions and are overpriced! The straight cut gear set is good to 1,500hp the 6pinion helical cut is limited to 1,200 based on side to side force. The early overdirve planet assembly is better as it has a larger sprag and better strength and should be used in the newer drum. Oh and full throttle acceleration while in overdrive is no issue..

Not sure if I agree with the straight cut planets being stronger. This has been a debate over the years and they have been shot down by some very good builders. There are also many different options for the intermediate sprag for these units. Yes the obvious upgrade is to install the wider 36 element sprag however most of the kits I have seen or used compromise the width of the frictions. Its kind of a double edged sword in this area of the trans depending on what you go with here. There are some guys making drums using the factory INT. clutches and using a custom race. I like this idea and it would be the best option providing the sprag holds up. I to like to use the early OD carrier in vehicles with decent hp but in some cases depending on the core you get you are forced to use what you get or have to change some parts to make it all work. I do feel that a billet input is a good idea in these units if you are locking the converter at WOT or are north of 700rwhp. HTH Vince
