Bad brake hose, or caliper???

well i took my truck for a little spin, after not driving it for about 2 months, and after driving for about 4 miles my front DS caliper was hot as hell and lightly smoking :jest:. so i jacked it up and the wheel doesnt spin very well.

anyways i just had this same problem with DS rear caliper, changed both out and that fixed it, just wondering if that will do the same trick this time, or is it the rubber hose? im not sure if there is test to tell?

Try taking the caliper bolts out and cleaning/ re greasing them with caliper grease. Never use Neversieze!

you mean pins and the rubber around the pistons?

Yeah, the smooth bolts the caliper moves on. Make sure they dont have buildup on them from sitting., I also like to take the pads off and clean the channels that they ride in.

alright, i'll try that tomorrow. i pulled the caliper just alittle while ago and it felt like only the top piston was sticking.

sounds like a stuck caliper, i got a new one from napa for under $50

yeah i called advance and there around $55 i'll call napa tomorrow also.

im probably just going to change both out, like i did for the rear's.

If the pins stick it will be on the back side of the rotor. Look at the brake pad on the inside to see if it is worn more.

Crack the bleeder open and try to push the piston back in the caliper, if I won't go, then the caliper will need replaced. Also do as everyone above has stated and clean and relube your caliper pins and slides

well i just pulled both sides down, and it looks like it might not be the caliper or the hose. the hub that was smoking is not turning very freely like the passenger side. so im guessing its the bearing inside, i have no idea how to change it out?
