AWD traction

I’m planning on running 500 crank HP and AWD
i have factory (govenor bomb) G80 rear. Should I upgrade to Eaton style rear differential.
If so, is anyone running the cheap “monkey grip” from eBay. LOL
also with only 500hp do you think I will need caltracs ?

RCSB if it matters…

No to cal tracks but I would do the truetrac.

Detroit Truetrac is what I run. I’m not running Caltracs on my Z71 and I’m above that power level. I barely spin the fronts on a hard launch with street tires.

Ha! I guess I respond to most of your questions. It just helps that I’ve been down the road you are headed towards!

The Truetrac may not be absolutely necessary, but the money you would spend on the Caltracs would be much better spent on the Truetrac on a 4wd/awd.

do you have a build thread ?

TrevorH Oct 24, 2024 10:15 PM

I don’t. I work too slowly on my stuff. People would get too bored!

If you want to see what happens to a stock g bomb at 650 rwhp you can dig thru my thread, lol. I cracked my carrier all the way across it with a 1/2” gap in it. I also launch in 4x4 but I’m spinning all 4 over a few times before they get traction, there’s not much like a 4x4 launch in a big fast truck.

Yeah, you properly broke that diff. My 30” tires and lowered suspension are likely a bit easier on parts. A quick truck with big tires and a lift is very cool, though!

smokinlmm Oct 25, 2024 01:24 PM

I run 33” mud tires on 22” oem wheels with an 3.5” lift and run high 11’s in the 1/4 at full weight. It’s a riot on the street, hurts a lot of feelings. I would agree you have a setup that puts less stress on the driveline, I’m thinking of lowering her down a bit and going for a sport truck look instead of the Carolina redneck 4x4 corvette.:burn:
