anyone have problems with center bearings?

I heard my driveshaft center bearing making noise under load. I only have 69,000 miles on it and it's a 1999 LS 2WD extended cab. Has anyone else had any issueswith their 2 piece driveshaft?

I thought there was a recall or something on the two piece and they were replacing them with the one piece unit?

Mine was suppose to have the 2 piece but I have a 1 piece. The original owner must have had it changed out.

Thanks for the info, I'll look into it.

is the truck lowered?

you have to replace it with another one. they do not make a one piece. they do have manufactures out there that have better ones. other than that you are stuck with it. get under the truck. move the driveshaft around.look for cracks in the rubber. also see how close that the center of the driveshaft going thru it gets to the outer edges. it should have a little play but if it is loose and coming close to the outer edges then it needs to be repalced. and it will have to be pressed on and off.

I noticed mine making a little noise this weekend when I was installing my powertrax. I shot some grease into the driveshaft zerk but there's no where to grease the carrier bearing. I only have 20,000 miles on the '03

Truck is bone stock 2wd and everything looks good, rubber is not cracked, no stiff u-joints. I took off the driveshaft at the rear and put the trans in neutral, the bearing feels good not hang-ups or grittiness in the bearing. I was getting a scraping noise " steel on steel shreek" on take off. I also get a little shutter in first gear when taking off normally from a light. Thanks for any insight on this issue..

p.s. I had a friend check into service updates, there is no 1 piece replacement and my driveshaft. mine is too long for a 1 piece.

Is yours a long bed or short bed? I've got a Ex cab short bed and I'm running a 1 piece aluminum driveshaft.

Extended cab with a 6.5' bed.
