9.5 hybrid vs 8.6 for towing

So ive got a 9.5 hybrid here from a vortec max nnbs and my 10 bolt needs some 4.88's bad. Ive got 36" tires and tow around 5500-6000lbs. However the 9.5 needs axles, gears, diff etc. I guess my question is, is it worth it to build the 9.5 or do the gears and diff on the current 10 bolt?

Why are you questioning this if you already have the 9.5 hybrid?

I just have the housing for the 9.5 it would need to completely built vs just gears/diff in the 10 bolt

If you are going to 4.88 gears the 9.5 will have a stronger Ring & Pinion and you would have 33 Spline axles compared to the 30 spline. Everything on the 9.5 is a win compared to the 10 bolt for what you want to accomplish.

Ive got a set of yukon 4.88's with less than 3k on them that ill make you a damn good deal on. Came out of my rockcrawler that had a 8.6" 10 bolt (zr2 blazer). Im swapping to a dana60 front and 14b full floater in the rear.

Hands down that 9.5" is way stronger, by the time you piece it together though youd probably be money ahead to just buy another complete one.

Long term the 9.5 would be the way to go but be alot more expensive, gears for the 10bolt would get you back in business for alot cheaper.

Not having shafts may be an issue since those have the smaller diameter at the wheel bearing.

Not really. I sent Dutchmen Axles a factory Hybrid axle shaft from a 2006 SS.

They can make a set for less than what 1 New OEM shaft used to cost. They have since been discontinued by GM

Good to know. Thanks. I wonder if the current 9.5 axle will fit..

Looks like yukon and dorman sell them no? I actually have the axles but ones bent. I had the housing checked for squareness and its just fine but the flange its self is bent. Not a clue how it happened?

I have not seen them for the Hybrid application with the RPO code AXN.

How can the tube be straight but the flange bent??? How was it checked for straightness???

Possibly wrecked???
