Default 700r4 3rd gear less power?

I have a built 700r4 in my 87 RCSB behind a 383 stroker 2 different cams and now a stall

last combo the truck ran 13.71 @ 96.99MPH, I since swapped cams installed a 3000 edge stall and some port work 1st & 2nd gear is a monster 3rd feels like I lifted a little

had the truck on the track today best run was 13.39 @ 98MPH but it ran 8.4 in the 1/8 @ 81.25MPH

truck made 342rwhp

I ran a late model gt500 snake pulled him like crazy! had him till I shifted in 3rd then he ran me down I ran the 13.4 he ran a 12.8 @ 112mph

it dont make sense to me that after all this work new engine combo I only got 1mph out of it and since its a bigger cam higher stall 50rwhp more makes me think somethings up with 3rd gear if thats passable?

I hope this makes sense, but it sounds like your RPM recovery into 3rd is wrong for the cam you are running if it is falling on its face after the 2-3 shift.

When you reduce your ET like that and still gain MPH, you are gaining more power than you think. Usually the better you 60' the lower your MPH will be.

You have to treat your engine as a package. Sure you might have gained 50 RWHP, but what did it do to your torque at say 3,500 to 4,000 rpm or even 4,500 rpm where you likely recover.

Another thing that tends to not be noticeable in lower gears and shows up as making 3rd gear a dog is too much timing advance. Try pulling a couple of degrees of timing and making a pass. If the MPH increases, remove a couple more. Concentrate on MPH rather than ET to get your total timing right. To recover your ET you can mess with your initial timing and advance rate, once you find where it wants to run up top.

this does make sense, how do you change this if it can be? when the truckwas getting dyno tuned the turner told me he add 2* and it didnt make any changes to the results so he pulled it out does that mean any thing? as for torque I dont have those number since he could not get a tach signal from my setup

I have to get the trans straighten out before i can go back to the strip, the speedometer housing blew out caused a big mess probably wont do any thing till after the holiday
