Default 6L90e in old platform...how to program TCM to VIN?

I have a 416 and I want to put a 6L90 behind it. I don't have the trans, pcm, or TCM yet (or harness for that matter). I heard that the 2015-2016 TCMs are more difficult to program. Can I just get an ol 58x LY6 PCM and any 6L90? I have HPT but beyond that I'm a bit confused.

No. Need to Match the TCM closely to the ECU. There is a year break too. 07-09 then 10- up

That's simple then. I'll find the 6L90 first and then whatever year it is, I'll buy an AC Delco replacement ECU for it. Easy peasy.

Yeah, Bricked a few ECU's before I found that out. HPT was of no help figuring the issue out and will not refund credits.

Get It programed first by a dealer and then do your thing...

I thought I didn't need the dealer to program anything? I find a 2010+ 6L90 and then buy a 2010+ Express Van/ Silverado 2500 ECU and I'm good to go?

If you buy a new or refurbished Replacement ECU, it needs to be programed.

Some engine operating systems and transmission systems don't play nice if they are not matched. You get slipping or other issues that you can't tune out.

It's best to match the two if you can. If you can pull the Vin From the Trans operating system you can look on ACdelco tech connect site and check the calibration. you may be able to find out what engine operating system it was used with if you have the vin#.

Some times programing the base calibrations is best done with the OE software.

So if I walk into my local GM dealer with a used 6L90e TCM in one hand, and a refurbished E38 ECM in the other hand, they'll be able to bench program them with the correct OS's?

Your local Dealer, No. They could do it with the right equipment, how ever No dealer has the equipment for this.

You need a bench harness to flash the modules by themselves if there not in a vehicle. They typically flash it through a DLC on the vehicle.

With a bench harness, they could flash the correct Matching OS.

My wife’s Acadia, when the trans was replaced, had to be towed to the dealer to flash the TCM because it was blank.

It’s a PITA.

No one could really answer this question for me... but ended up sending both PCM and TCM to Speartech and they VIN matched them up for me and put a Corvette OS on them.
