6L80e vs T56
Always loved driving a manual, autos are just to boring for me. My sierra z71 5.3 currently has the 6L80e and Im looking to swap it out for a t56, am I crazy? Will it even remotely compare in durability compared to the 6L80e? Dont mention the 4x4 issue I already have that all worked out if I go for the swap, and I know Ill need a good clutch, spec seems to have what ill need, any opinions are great appreciated, positive or negative

Would you mind sharing the details on what parts are needed to swap? Im extremely intrested in this!! Personally I think it would hold just fine. My old cobra w/slicks took some serious abuse!!!

Oh man! I just don't see you being happy with that conversion myself. I love grabbing gears like the next guy, but it get's old to me... but that's me.
I would wonder how that conversion would affect the resale value should life throw you a wrinkle and the truck had to go... good reason or bad.
I would have to think that an automatic would be less maintenance than a clutch ever would be. Also, even if you could adapt it I don't see the T-56 being anywhere near as durable as the 6L80 you have now. Sure, I'm aware of it's weaknesses... but I'm aware of both of their weaknesses.
I just don't see it being the sort of conversion a guy would be happy with over the years as compared to the automatic. That's my .02!

The only thing I dont have worked out so far is how my shifter will be mounted in the correct location, as I will NOT be using a f-body trans but a corvette t56 with the shifter mounted in the most forward shifter plate via the t56 mcleod slik stik front shifter. Only a small custom spacer will be needed to bolt to the back of the z06 transaxle adapter to mate it to the stock transfer case.
I know some of you guys may consider this to be a downgrade, and in someways yes I agree, but it doesnt take much to upgrade the t56 to be stronger then a 6l80e, and not to mention no automatic will ever be as fun as m6 in my opinion so the swap is worth doing for my own taste

if I would change the newer 6 speeds with any mt tranny on a truck it would diffintly be the ZF S6 650 from the 8.1 / 6.6 HD trucks

Man, I can't believe that everybody prefers the auto's. I say don't listen to the old farts and throw the T56 in and have some fun. Im with you man, I feel that driving a manual is a lot more fun. I hate that all the new vehicle that are coming out just continue to take more control away from the driver. Good luck with the swap buddy. Oh and if you weren't already aware Rockland Standard gear makes a 4x4 t56.
