Default 6l80e-6l90e

What is the diff between these trans ?
I am looking to maybe swap out my 4L60E,
don't want a 4L80E, hate the gear ratios and
don't think it will fit in my Colly tunnel. to big.
so far my 4L60E is holding up very well, almost a
year behind the 6.2, next year i'm installing a
LSA so i'm thinking about a trans now. truck is
a DD, and i tow a small Harley 2 bike trailer.
once in a while to the track. maybe a built 4L60E
would hold up. I have a 2800 stall now. and trans
has been tuned.

Some internal parts and the calibrations between the two are different but that's really it. Overall even in the tune the changes aren't anything mind blowing, they just have different settings if it was a truck 6L80e and the truck 6L90e or if the 6L80e was in a car that wasn't supercharged like a CTSV or ZL1.

I don't have a break down of actual parts though.

Default gear ratios

Thanks, FFDP, what are the gear ratios of 6L80E AND 6L90E ?
are they the same basic size of a 4L60E ? are they stronger ?
can i reuse my conv ? I guess i will need to change my shifter ?

The 6L80 or 6L90 is way stronger than a 4L60e, it's not even a contest. The 4L60e is junk compared to the 6 speed units. There is a reason why they stick this transmission behind 7,500lb/hr trucks that can tow over 10,000-13,000lbs.

I don't know the overall length of the 4L60e to a 6 speed unit, you'd have to make a transmission mount for it anyway as they are different.

Torque converter, I do not know if they work between the two. My guess is that the bolt patterns are different and you'd need a 6 speed flex plate anyway.

1st. 4.027
2nd. 2.364
3rd. 1.532
4th. 1.152
5th. 0.852
6th. 0.667

The 6L90 is a heavy-duty version of the 6L80 six-speed automatic, with a strengthened input gearset that has two additional pinion gears (six in total) and a strengthened output gearset that uses wider gears than the 6L80. Its flexibility extends to the clutches, where the 6L90 has one more clutch plate in each clutch than the 6L80 for heavy-duty applications. There is also a 6L90 version without the additional clutch plate to more closely match application requirements, where appropriate. The 6L90 shares about 75 percent of the parts as the 6L80, although the case of the 6L90 is 35 mm longer than the 6L80 case. The 6L90’s case also accommodates additional fasteners between the transmission and the transfer case for improved driveline noise/vibration performance.
The rest you can just google if you need more information, it's all out there.

Then getting your computer to function the 6L80e/90e is another thing to tackle. It's going to several steps to climb and I personally do not know what it takes to make your operating system work with it. It could even require switching systems.

Default Pcm

I think i saw the 6spd setup is in my 2010 PCM/BCM
when the trans was tuned. I have the Can Bus sys.
The Colly has a weird OS, there are Silverado segments
in it. it shows a tow/Haul mode but the truck doesn't
have it. but it can be enabled with a switch and used
a track race tune.
