5-speed to 6-speed

How much trouble would it be to convert my stock 5-speed to a t56 6-speed, and what kind of gains would there be?????

Try looking up 1truess on here. He did the swap and has the write-up on his website. I remember seeing a video clip of it after the swap somewhere; it was pretty badass.

Well he was goin from an auto to a 6-speed, i already have a 5-speed, so i'm thinkin it wouldn't be as hard for me

I did the swap, but I changed motors at the same time. I put the 5.3 in with the 6 speed. The crank on the 4.8 equipped with the nv3500 sticks out alittle more. I didn't want to deal with the clearence issues with that motor, so I did not use it. The swap was preaty straight forward. You use the same crossmember. Cut hole in floor. I used the same clutch master cylinder. shorten drive shaft. Wire up the electrical. (reverse lock out, back up lights, speed sensor) You will need the harness from the t56 for that. I used the Oz 700 clutch. Piece of cake. I am still breaking in the clutch so I have not jumped on it yet. Still need tuning.

I was going to do the lq4 6.0 with the 6 speed but the motor I bought on ebay was missing a piston and a valve. Damaged the block preaty good. The last time I buy a motor on ebay. 20k on the motor, yeah right! So I went with the 5.3 instead. The crank on the 6.0 stuck out the same as the 5.3. The 6.0 would of been perfect. Atleast the one I had, It was suppost to be a 2002, I dont know what trany it had behind it though. I think it depends on the trany type. I had the 6.0, 5.3, and the 4.8 from the 5 speed in my garage at the same time. The only crank that seamed different was the 4.8. I think it was because of the trany.

I have a 2000 Silverado rcsb with a 4.8 that I finished a 5 speed to 6 speed swap in June. My T56 came out of a 1999 Camero. You will need 3/4" of spacing for your bell housing for starters. In turn your drive shaft will have to be shortened. You can use your stock slave. You have to use your stock flywheel due to the fact that the crank sticks out of our motor further. You will have to call Spec for your clutch set up. Wouldn't bother with Centerforce.

What about shifter? How did that work out?

Just seen this thread, thought I would chime in! I used a hurst Shifter from the f-body and it works great for me. Check out my website for pics and a little write up I started but never really finished!
