Rockland Standard Gear makes a kit to adapt the T56 to a transfer case. They also make upgraded T56 transmissions.

Some guy fabbed this up to put in a Sy/Ty. Looks like an LT1 style T56. Dont know any details about it but you can see where they welded the transfer case adapter to the tailshaft housing.

George at RS gear hit me back saying its taking a while for him to get adapters made. While waiting patiently, I'm entertaining the idea of seeing what it would take to go with a divorced transfer case. Anyone have any beneficial info on doing this? Rather than do all that welding...I think it just may be simpler to have a T56 built strong enough to run in 4wd.

It'd be nice to have a T56 with a 4x4...

The only question would be, can it stand up to regular truck use? lol

How do they hold up when it comes to towing?

the trans will hold but there isnt a clutch that will or even take a good amount of hp for any amount of time. the added weight on the trucks is what isnt helping.
