Here's a piece of advice id suggest you heed.

Use the 91-96 4L80 dipstick. It has the proper fill level.

If you use the 97 up dipstick and go by its reference marks you will burn up your trans.

I'm assuming the tubes are the same, but you're saying but the 91-96 dipstick?

Have a p/n for the proper dipstick?

Use whatever dipstick you want, just check the full mark with the pan off and adjust if necessary. Fluid level even with gasket surface to 1/4" above.

Seeings how there is conflicting views on the proper dipstick tube and dipstick. Can you use a 2500 HD tube and HD dipstick. Wouldnt the fluid levels then read properly. The part number that I posted for the tube I had found through a different thread what application does that tube fit?

This is exactly what my trans builder told me to do when it was shipped to me. Score your existing dip stick to proper levels

The earlier dipstick has a better design also which eliminates false readings from fluid on the side of the tube.

I have been away for a while and this just came to mind. But what cooler line from the 60 gets extended to the back of the 80e? The top cooler line or the bottom line of the 60?

This is what I did. I got the tube and dipstick from a 2005 4L80E 2500HD.

I then asked Jake from Jake's where to set the level in my stage 4 4L80E with the D3 brake, and they said 1/4" above the bottom of the case. So I took the pan off, marked a line on the dipstick at the bottom of the case, and I now fill to 1/4" above the mark I made.
